For those that want to or are having trouble running/installing Gnome3 here are
the steps I followed and it installed perfectly.
I am currently running Ubuntu 11.04 with the latest updates.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

As with others this breaks the default Ubuntu Session

I fixed this by editing /usr/share/xsessions/gnome.desktop
change the line Exec=gnome-session --session=ubuntu to
Exec=gnome-session --session=gnome

I also added a link to /usr/share/applications/gnome-shell.desktop in
~/.local/share/applications

In the GDM it still says ubuntu not gnome-shell but thats okay for me

I hope this helps
