I just found out that altough # dpkg-reconfigure localeconf writes a variable LANF in /etc/environment , the shell uses the LANG definition that exists in /etc/default/locale So, maybe localeconf shoud be writing into /etc/default/locale instead of /etc/environment? ( I'm using an updated
