Just thought I'd pitch in as well and say that disabling drm kms polling
also solves the problem on my Dell E6510.
Finally I can go all open-source :)

I would question the above comment about it being fixed in kernel 3.3 -
I tried upgrading to mainline 3.3.1 and was still seeing the same
behaviour. The pauses were smaller, but still in evidence.
It's a shame, but it looks like I'll have to keep using the nvidia
binary driver for a bit longer :(
I have exactly the same behaviour as coffeemonk, and as superlinkx says,
it was triggered by an update today. I dug a little further through the
conflicts and it seems to be related to a problem with libsoup2.4-1:i386
- see the message below:

David,
I'm frankly a little surprised that nothing is being provided for Natty
- I had always thought that *.04 versions were LTS releases. Is that
trend being discontinued for Ubuntu 11? When is the next LTS?
Thanks.

I agree it is different from the screenshot provided by the OP, but it
seems similar to his complaint numbered 2), yes?

I can confirm this bug (artifacts on returning from suspend). Running
11.04 on a Lenovo T61 with Nvidia NVS 140M using latest Nvidia drivers.
Screenshot is attached.

I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 10.04 with GNOME 2.30.2
I have Ubuntu installed on my laptop which I like to connect to a large
external monitor when I am working at home. I have tried
locking/unlocking all applets and have made sure that the applets I want
stuck to the right edge of the screen
This problem even occurs if you uninstall empathy - to fix, I've had to
reinstall and delete the accounts. Certainly not the behaviour I'd
desire.
