reading a previously written DVD-R, or DVD+R DL, the drive disappears.
If I remove the disc, the drive reappears. If I try a previously written

System was I guess in suspend mode, although can't ever remember when I
ever had suspend activated. I usually have my system set up to be on
forever.
The keyboard was on (because indicator lights where on), but everything
I did, pressing keys on keyboard, and moving the mouse
I've removed the gnome-screensaver, and installed the xscreensaver. It
works as it should with the xscreensaver. No dimming.
My version of Gnome is 2.26.1. The version of gnome-screensaver that was
installed was 2.24.0-0ubuntu6. There was no update to the screensaver,

I've got Ubuntu 9.04, and this problem persists. (Included is my system
info file.). On my system, I have all Power Management settings
disabled, so that the Monitor never goes to sleep. I'm using the
Metacity window manager, so I don't believe I am using compiz. Even
though I've got my screensave

subtitles and it doesn't automatically open it now, so in a since it's

I have an NVidia Geforce 6600 GT and a LCD 1280x1024 monitor. After the
upgrade, it starts up in a Vesa graphical configurator screen. I try to
select Geforce 6 series, but it stays at Geforce 6800. I cannot select
my NVidia proprietary driver. If I change my xorg.conf file
Good for you, bad for me. It still is not working. Everytime I try
using the nvidia driver a failsafe configurator comes up saying it
couldn't load. It was working fine in 2.6.22.11, but now it does not.

I was looking around, and thought this might have something to do with
gtk versions. The file I deleted and was subsequentally recreated was
gtkrc-1.2-gnome2. Since most of the themes are gtk2 themes might this
be a problem. But when I check synaptic, I have gtk2 installed. just
wondering why do
I have tried that workaround. Changed the theme back to Aluminum-Alloy-
Volcanic, and tried running Thunderbird. Trying to compose the message,
just crashed thunderbird again. Changing it to any other theme was ok.
At least the themes I have installed. And I also have all the latest
gutsy update
Can this actually be a Wine problem? Like I said, yesterday it was
working fine. Wine ran all my windows apps.

No. It wasn't working before. I just turned on Desktop Effects to test
out the driver. I would have thought that desktop effects would need a
gl driver. It's almost like I have a gl driver (hence the name nvidia-
glx-new) but I really have a normal nv driver in disguise.

I was looking into past bugs and came upon bug #45008. I remember that I
just downloaded a bunch of themes thru Art Manager, to try them out. I
was using Aluminum-Alloy-Volcanic, and then all these crashes started
happening.
Just for the heck of it, I switched back to the Human default theme, and
I kinda believe this may not be a problem with firefox, per se. I have
just noticed that if I try to print thru OpenOffice too, the print
dialog freezes up, and totally locks up the app. Have to force quit the
app.

I too get this crash. When I open thunderbird and try to compose a
message (write), thunderbird freezes. All boxes/programs running on the
screen corrupt the desktop. Firefox crashes if I try to print
something. Total crash. I will attach the backtrace that I followed in
the previous message.

I've just logged out. It took over 4 minutes to log out. During that
