For anyone who sees this, it is a RAM issue. For me, like others here, the hardware is the cause. Lack of RAM. I installed another 16 GB and my RAM usage went away. Freezes and random crashes stopped. The lack of RAM will also cause PulseAudio to distort, prompting a -k. Hopefully this helps

I can get other processes to produce core dumps, but pulseaudio is not producing any. Given PA stops dying when I add 'realtime-scheduling = no' to /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, this makes me think that the process is hitting either RLIMIT_RTTIME or RLIMIT_CPU, which would cause the kernel to send
