It seems to have solved the issues. I haven't seen the problem again in a
couple of days.

Tim I tried the 2.6.24-21 kernels you listed at http://ppa.launchpad.net
/timg-tpi/ubuntu/ and they boot up unlike the 2.6.24-20 kernel but after
that upgrade my wireless card was MIA. I am using the rt61pci wireless
driver. I restarted with the 2.6.24-19 kernel to get it back. I'm sure
I'm missing
Same issue here Athlon XP 3200 Nvidia card, etc... etc... .19 Kernel
works now I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The update manager was installing packages when the Gnome Panel crashed.
I'm not 100% sure if that was the reason so, I attached the ".xsession-

I have had problems umounting my external USB storage drive. It freezes
Nautilus for a minute or more when mounting and umounting. It hasn't
crashed yet with this USB drive but I do have a persistent icon on the
desktop even when the drive is not mounted that I can't remove unless I
log out and bac
Steffen's suggestion fixed HAL and about 8 other things that all
depended on the PolicyKit working. I executed the "sudo mkdir
/var/run/PolicyKit" command and then "sudo dpkg --configure -a" to
resolve/finish the upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy Alpha 6. Thanks very
