Workaround - use gconf-editor (or equivalent) to set
/apps/guake/keybindings/global/show_hide to "space" (for
example) instead of "space".

This actually doesn't seem to have anything to do with Space; the bug
title should be "Can't use Ctrl as a modifier key to bring up Guake
0.4.2-7" as this same behavior is exhibited when using control with any
hotkey in Guake. Again, behavior is that Guake ignores the "Control+"
entirely and binds
I'll try out and update how Simon's package does with ubuntu server
10.04 tomorrow.

Gabriel's quick fix (#57) didn't work for me. Bug #550962 (marked as a
duplicate of this bug) mentions adding
invoke-rc.d networking restart
to rc.local, so I'm going to try that. Rather frustrating, as this is
even more problematic in ubuntu server, where NetworkManager isn't even
an option.
