I'm able to unlock it manually but not using the installed system's own
tools. I have to use a Live image. But both the 14.04 and 14.10 Live
images work for that. Is there some boot parameter I could use to try
the installed system's own tools manually? The virtual consoles are not
available

alternate won't complete installation either, but for different reasons
so no data on the GUI can be gathered.

Actually I just saw that it is semi fixed in 14.04 in the way that
now_auto_removable-pkgs_auto_removable
now reads

The problem is still persistent. I do now use Ubuntu 14.04.1. Already

I'm not sure what the bug is here. The setting controls whether the
sound menu is shown or not. If it is set to false, it is not visible. It
can be controlled from the sound panel in System Settings.
