I think this was closed prematurely. I have the problem, and my Acer laptop isn't the same configuration as Marco's. The suspend works in SuSE, CentOS but not in Ubuntu. I was going to test Mint, but haven't yet done so. If this is not being considered a real bug, then I'm probably going to either go back to a previous version of Ubuntu (which did work with this hardware) or perhaps try Mint and see if it works there.
