When i press 'enter' it simply flickers but remains 'no'.
Perhaps this has to do with metadata type?
Err, my post got butchered somehow.
To be specific, i would have expected grub bootloader be installed on
both members of this raid mirror (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb)
Instead it failed with minimal output at either terminal (4) or in
installer window. No useful troubleshooting messages appeared.
I appear to be having a similar problem on 64 bit alternate installer.
I tried ln -s 'ing /cdrom to /media/cdrom at very beginning of install
I can see contents in /media/cdrom and at /cdrom
I selected 'guided using entire drive' without LVM
the message is:

I'll place this comment here with great trepidation. I've had this
problem for some time and I've been starting cups manually. I do not
have the skill to do the work arounds that have been suggested. My
initial approach was to try the old uninstall reinstall using synaptic
on my kubuntu 64bit
I am also having problems with IDE from the MCP51 chipset.
My DL dvd rom drive will no longer record properly.
Will attach the log output.

Interesting-- the other DVD recorder that I own doesn't exhibit this
behavior. You may be able to chalk up my experience here to hardware
incompatibilities or a bad dvd burner

The Samsung R560 has the same problem, but I have a partial work-around.
If you press Fn+Up/Down, the brightness bar appears and starts flickering, but
the brightness does not change. Instead the keyboard seems to lock up.
You can return the keyboard to normal by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F3, then
Apparently this is not really a bug, but is actually a feature of Synaptics
Touchpad.
Its meant to prevent the mouse from accidentally being moved while typing.
Luckily this annoying behavior can be turned off in Gnome by going:
System Preferences Mouse Touchpad (Uncheck: Disable touchpad
I should also note here that I'm tracking the universe / multiverse
packages in my sources.list. Perhaps this apparently incomplete kernel
install comes from that repository, in which case it may be beyond the
scope of the Ubuntu bug trackers.

Hardy kernel panic after upgrade
My bad. The 2.6.24.3 kernel in my case was apparently not a stock
Ubuntu kernel, but one I probably compiled myself. During a recent
upgrade, some process or other probably ran update-grub and several
unwanted stanzas got inserted into menu.lst.

Still happening in Hardy, and I installed today's HAL update earlier

the bug. This is really getting to be quite irksome.
