After last upgrade of cups (1.3.9-17ubuntu3) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.1 of yesterday, the problem of black squares is back again. The upgrade replaced /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops and I lost the pdftops posted by Till here:

Hi Till, yes I know, but I was confused by the fact that this bug seemed fixed by foomatic-db-engine, instead it seems to be a cups issue still not fixed. Anyway, I've tested your last pdftops and it seems to work fine! BTW, the printer involved is a Ricoh MP C2050. Thanks, Luca -- black

After upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 64 bit on my HP EliteBook 8530p with ATI HD 3650, I can confirm that fglrx 8.600 provided by Jaunty is not working. The machine is hanging with Black Screen of Death. The Xorg.0.log is not reporting anything useful. I was not able to catch any other message from
