Hi again, Reporting back after a couple of weeks since switching back to 9.10 and I have not had a single instance of my optical drives failing to stay mounted. If there is anyone out there who needs any further information from me, or needs me to do any special testing, please let me know.

Hello, I have finished the roll back to 9.10 and the problem is completely gone (again). I played a DVD for 12 hours without any issues. I am not ready to call it fixed for another couple of days. I will check back after a few days. Sheldon -- Cdrom drive not recognized automatically

I also upgraded to 2.6.32-24-generic and still have the problem. I refuse to change hardware for this issue because both of my drives are identical and they both work perfectly using windowsXP. fstab tinkering has shown no promise. -- [Lucid] cdrom drive not recognized automatically

I am also having a problem after upgrading to 10.04. I can not mount cd/dvd's except under the following condition: immediately after a reboot, and even then the disks will only stay mounted for a while before I start getting the Buffer I/O error on device sr1, logical block 297861. I have an
