In the last days I've upgraded the VMware Player from version 4.0.1
(build-528992) to version 4.0.2 (build-591240) and, in my case, the bug
doesn't appear any more.
I've done some other stuff in my system, so I'm not really sure this is
the solution, has anyone tried with 4.0.2?

Just retried with the version 3.2.2.1-0ubuntu1~oneiric1 and it doesn't work.
Same behaviour.
In my case when the bug appears, the reboot is needed. I didn't find any
workaround.

Kernel: 3.0.0.14
Video Driver: NVidia (nvidia-current with Bumblebee)
Desktop: Gnome-shell
VMware player: 4.0.1 build-528992
Guest: WinXP, Windows 2003 server
