This is clearly a bug in HAL. It looks like that HAL sometimes does not
properly detect brightness levels, leaving it to huge number, as seen in
lshal-before.log:

Just tried latest version (6.7.193-1ubuntu1) on HP nw8240 with ATI
FireGL V5000 PCIE - it does not solve the problem for me (even though
