Steve, your caution is well-advised. I tried Xubuntu10.04 Alpha2 a few
weeks ago and the several problems made the effort premature. My AMD rig
has Nvidia Nforce2 chipset and Gforce4 graphic if that matters. I'm
heartened by all the replies to the various linked bug reports.

Lots of good info and stuff to try out. As with Taz, I might have done
an upgrade (in my case, from within running sys using Aptitude) and/or
an install of Ristretto WITHOUT rebooting before further activity. Not
sure that I was this careless but the newly-installed Ristretto which
went wild before

Full sys crash/lockup using Ristretto with Karmic. Unable to get through
boot process afterwards. On boot, "init:mountall main process (549)
terminated with STATUS 1 general error mounting filenames."
Details: using latest (date 2.28.10) Ristretto on Karmic with XFCE4 and some
gnome components.
