Roberto Leinardi's comment on 9-29 might have been accurate for him, but
overall it is not right. Appindicators still do not work on 18.10,
including a fresh install of 18.10 after its release date, one in which
Unity was never installed, nor unity-tweak-tool. I've seen that message

I haven't been able to give that a try yet. I'll need to do a bit of

I found a "solution" that might be helpful to those fixing the bugs. On
my Quantal system I downloaded the "ambiance-colors" theme, then the

apply the ambiance-blue theme; the window theme applied just fine, but
not the Gtk theme,
Okay, so it's not an update but a fresh install. Whatever it's called,
it won't work: can't update, upgrade, install, or anything else. Is

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

installed
python3-software-properties : Depends: python3 (>= 3.2.3-3~) but

When I try to run Software Updater from the Software Up To Date menu
item (under the gear wheel), I get no errors but the Software Updater
just doesn't open. When I tried to run it from the command line
(update-manager) I get the error message shown. The problem persists
after upgrading the 3.5.0
This bug will also not let you edit a software source (like changing one
from quantal to precise).

I know YOU think you have a system in which it is easy to report bugs,
