The /etc/hosts or ~/.ssh/config workaround didn't work from me (I
primarily used mDNS/Bonjour name resolution). However, I found this
error report in ~/.xsession-errors:

Well, I gave up about it and reinstalled my system to 9.04. Yes, it was
somewhat similar to bug 399950, but I didn't have any problems with HDD
space though. As far this bug concerns me, it can be closed...

I skipped trying to install Firefox2 and installed Ubuntu 8.10 while
keeping the /home partition from my previous install on 8.04.1. That
didn't help Firefox at all. It's still unusable, has no bookmars, keeps
no history (e.g. back button doesn't work). Could it be that FF app
