Thank you and sorry to reply this late.
I get a message now about dependency problems, so uppose it is related to
recent upgrades clashing. I twould be good
to use the MS fonts but I can wait.

Terminal didn't make sense of all put in together or the first line by itself.
It did nothing with the 2nd.
The next two brought some upgrades and this message twice:

Public bug reported:
This jumping also happens when playing Alsaplayer or Windows Media
Player (through wine). For all three players fault doesn't seem
dependent on using browser, wp etc.
Ubuntu 9.04, latest stable Firefox, Alsa, wine, WMP, vlc.
bash alsa info etc. says no such command.

Inserting audio disc brings up sound juicer - have to cancel this before I can
play the disc
