I have no ideas why this would occur and was about to try to manually
remove mysql from aptitude and from the hard drive. I need it, but I
also need to be able to update my machine :)

my problem by uninstalling apt, installing deb and reinstalling apt as

I also had the same problem. Apparently libsnack2 uses OSS, which is
supposed to be left behind some time ago.
