I have experienced this problem since 12.04. Issue occurs with Windows
XP or Windows 7. I do have a workaround. Suspend Ubuntu and power on.
Sound returns.

This bug is present on Ubuntu UNE 10.04 LTS and 10.10 running on a
netbook with screen resolution of 1024 x 600 (wide screen.) Problem only
evident with GNOME desktop. Both mail and contacts scale correctly.
However, when switching to calendar the window is larger that 1024 x

I've also seen this behaviour.
The solution is quite simple:
1. Open Gnome Terminal and type gconf-editor.
2. Select apps->maximus.
3. Double-click exclude-class key.
4. Click Add and type 'pinentry' followed by OK.
I've tested this solution with Evolution and GPG, e.g. gpg --clearsign.

Similar behaviour on HP Compaq nx6125 (Seagate ST9808211A) running 9.10
i386 and x86-64. Checked disk in Windows XP using 3rd party tool and no
problems reported. No issue with 9.04 x86-64.
