I can confirm this as well. However, I got this behaviour by going in
the reverse direction. ie., I started out with a Gnome ubuntu-desktop
install, and later install kubuntu-desktop. This caused the programs
listed in the report to show up in my Sessions applet.

I also had a notebook hard drive just die. It was a Samsung in a
Dell XPS M1330. I am not saying that because the hard drive died, and I
have taken interest in this bug, that this bug is the reason. However I

While this is well reported I just wanted to note I experience the exact
same behaviour in Gutsy using the Xubuntu live disk. Re-enabling the
onboard and switching over seems to be the only solution. The

I can confirm this bug also. Worst of all, I'm using the Gutsy RC. I
think one of the reasons this isn't reported very often is that its hard
to tell its going on unless you're in a quiet room. For me, adding
sudo hdparm -B254 /dev/sda to my rc.local made this excessive parking
stop.
I can confirm this also, it's very annoying because I can't actually
make any changes to my preferences. Resolution is 1280x800

Steps to reproduce:
1. Set a low resolution, most likely with a height under 800 pixels.
2. Go to Edit - Edit Preferences (Ctrl + P) in gtkpod.
Expected Results:
Be able to edit preferences and save chages.
Actual results:
Changes can be made but not saved because Apply Cancel and OK buttons
On an HP DV6000t with a Geforce Go 7400 this kills the X config as well.
I fixed the dead X config by reverting back to the old generic config
that nvidia-glx-config saves. Then, instead of running nvidia-glx-
config enable I ran nvidia-xconfig which worked like a charm,
preserved my X config,
