I solved the issue originally by downloading the Linux driver directly
from the manufacturer's website and installing it. I have not done a new
install since, but have simply kept that driver through the last two
years of dist-upgrades. So, testing it locally won't be of much help.

I've reinstalled the drivers. When printing, the computer says the data
is sent successfully and the screen on the printer (Brother MFC7820N)
says receiving, but when the data transfer is complete, the printer
just goes back to sleep instead of

This is something that happens occasionally. In almost every case
refreshing the page takes care of the problem. Also, the bug is quite
old and we have had a couple of software upgrades during that time and
are in the process of a major version upgrade, so the point would be
moot anyway.
