I get the same error selecting:
1) Menu File - Send by Email...
2) Shift + Ctrl + E
There was an error executing 'xdg-email'.
Error while executing 'xdg-email'.
Exit Code: 2.
Excecuting xdg-email on the terminal it launches a new email window with the
default email client (Thunderbird).

I'm sorry to tell that apport doesn't do anything when the evince
crashes so I can't submit a .crash file. I followed the process you
describe in your message and apport just doesn't realize that evince
crashed. I'm an experienced GNU/Linux user, but my programming/debugging
skills are limited. If
Easy, just gunzip the Packages.gz and is the same stuff. The thing is
that somebody forgot to place Packages in that dir and sometimes
debmirror complains about it.
