Could you perform try to start the postgresql server and post the file
/var/log/postgresql-8.4-main.log to here?
The following command will start the postgresql server, enter it in a gnome
terminal:
sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.4 start

Just updated my Karmic and the latest kernel offers no solution (
2.6.31-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 2 11:55:55 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux).
The problem already existed with Ubuntu 9.04. Could you explain wake up
in old kernel?

You will see a number of extra modules drivers ( Nvidia non-free,

MSI P965 NEO-F motherboard.
Really hope the fix gets in Edgy Eft, a lot of people (basically all
people with a Core 2 Duo chipset + others) are affected by this problem.
