I'm seeing this too, with 2.6.20-12-lowlatency on a Thinkpad T30.
(opensource ATI drivers for Radeon 7500, P4 @2Ghz, orinoco_pci wireless,
e100 ethernet).
Hibernation used to work fine in edgy and in previous feisty kernels,
though there had been a regression with hibernation+sound (vis. bug

Any idea on where this bug is located? This does make watching movies
and long videos really annoying, and it's only recently started
occurring.
The two machines on which I have this problem (the only two that I use
to watch DVDs and videos) both use the opensource ATI driver (one's a
G4-based
The laptop won't even hibernate now. The moon icon flashes for a while,
the display goes off, but then immediately (within 10 seconds) comes
back on with the gnome-screensaver password prompt. Audio does appear to
work after this failed hibernation process, though.

Here's the output of running dmesg. I attempted three different
hibernates, none of the suceeded in turning off the computer. They
appeared to hibernate but immediately restarted. Note, this was not a
reboot, the bootstrap BIOS screen with the IBM logo never comes up.

Actually, I think the problem I just described was caused by the swap
partition not being turned on. Due to the other bug where swap
partitions mount twice, I had removed the UUID line and replaced it with
a /dev/hda5 line which no longer works (it needs to be /dev/sda5).
I'll fix this and report
OK, nope, no luck with 2.6.20-12, even with the swap partition on,
hibernation still fails. suspend-to-ram works fine, but suspend-to-disk
fails. I'll attach another dmesg output.

disable all screensaver and power saving features, the monitor is still

Is there a better mirror that I should be using? I just picked the top

I can't use the ubuntu.com ones because my Uni appears to be throttling
us.archive.ubuntu.com and archive.ubuntu.com to around 30K/s,
I changed mirror.anl.gov to mirror.mcs.anl.gov and the dist upgrade was
able to proceed.
However, it did add an archive.ubuntu.com line at the end of my
sources.list.

So why not just use /bin/bash? On any system where /bin/bash doesn't

Oh, BTW, I've noticed that the Thinkpad hardware may need a cold boot to
operate properly. I'm not sure why this is, but sometimes if I just
reboot (via System/Quit.../Reboot), the wireless can't connect, so I
have to actually shut down and press the power button to start it up

Hmm... I also tried to submit the crashfile via the web site directly
(as an attachment to a bug report). It also failed with an Error 500 (if

The postinst script for bcm43xx-fwcutter checks for the existence of
/lib/firmware/bcm43xx_microcode11.fw and cancels the download if it's
there. I think it should not check for this file because 1) just because
that file is there

I've been using the dbgsym packages from
http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/ddebs (almost all of which were
installed when the crash occurred). I installed evolution-data-server-
dbgsym and libglib2.0-0-dbgsym, but all the other -dbgsym packages were
installed already.

Sure, but a user will be logged in when a system upgrade that patches
dbus is installed, correct? Shouldn't gnome-power-manager work akin to
network-manager and not crash when dbus restarts?
