I don 't know, if it helpfull, but maybe it is true, that fingerprint
device originally is made by UPEK/Authentec, but you can not control it
directly because of Broadcom USH layer?

description and in release.txt of various Dell ControlVault packages for
Windows, bmc5880 is very related to UPEK drivers. They are proprietary,
but fingerprint-gui
I just hope, that descriptions in drivers for Windows could help to
implement drivers for linux.

I also had this problem in openSUSE 11.4 64 bit with KDE 4.6.0.
I fixed it for me by:
1. removing files: ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4, ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde
2. Go to KDE settings Application Apearance GTK styles and fonts
3. Select QtCurve theme
Maybe your need to try other themes. Your may want also to
