I have the same problem with gutsy and an Intermec SF51 barcode scanner.
Could connect. I can try to setup, insert the pin and then i get the

After fixing the problem like you describe here, i have problems with my
nvidia driver. I install it manually (version 1.0-9639). Now i get a
version missmatch. Don't know what to do.

perhaps you habe to install the driver this way
sudo sh NVIDIA-*VERSION* --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-
headers-uname r
uname -r tells you the kernel version. you have to execute it before you
run the installation and copy the result od uname -r into the clipboard
and paste it where
the pre compiled kernel on the FTP server
And then it just shut off! :(
