After experiencing this bug in Natty, I upgraded to Oneiric and it still

I set Ctrl-key-position in gnome-keyboard-properties to Make Caps-
Lock an additional Ctrl. This works for a while, but then arbitrarily
returns to the default behavior at some point

In xorg.conf, the InputDevice section is commented out with this comment
commented out by update-manager, HAL is now used. Even after
uncommenting the appropriate things (the section and the InputDevice
entry in ServerLayout), the ctrl:nocaps setting

So it's not vim. On the off chance it was, I switched to emacs22-gtk and
I'm still getting the same problems. I also discovered xset r on,
which does wonders for me not having to click on menus to get key repeat
back (and demonstrates that key repeat really is an X thing rather than
a gnome thing

Trying to get a backtrace on moon-lander was awkward at best. There's no
moon-lander-dbg package, and the program doesn't actually crash, it just
stops responding (and takes 100% CPU).

xhantt - You're probably right, but this bug is directly due to a change
that Ubuntu made and didn't properly support. This stuff works in Debian
because they use bash as /bin/sh. Using dash is great, but every package
that it breaks is an Ubuntu bug that can't be pawned off on upstream.

With desktop effects enabled, I can't resume from Hibernate or Suspend
properly. When I try to resume, I get movable mouse pointer on a black
background. For suspend, I was able to get GDM to restart with Alt-
SysReq-K and log back in - so it's coming back most of the way.
Interestingly, when I suspend and successfully resume (with desktop
effects off) I get a Suspending Failed popup.

And here's that busybox prompt it ends up with. After this it prints a
couple more SATA errors on top of the prompt. Sorry for the blurry
camera-phone photo, but I think it's enough to see what's going on.

Yea, I'm pretty sure I was running ImageZoom at the time.
Looks like this is a plug-in issue, and probably a resolved one at that.

I upgraded to the latest gutsy (Sept 25 ~6pm).
When prompted to reboot, I did so.
When the boot process tried to display the splash screen, my monitor turned
off. I left it for about 20 minutes to see if it recovered, then hit
Ctrl+Alt+Del
