I opened Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Autostart.
I clicked Add Program.
I entered the path /home/neil/bin/gkrellm
I corrected the name to gkrellm-wrapper
This created a file called /home/neil/.config/autostart/gkrellm-wrapper.desktop
with the following contents:

I enabled LEDs in gkrellm and expected the LEDs to appear, but they
didn't. Other aspects of gkrellm continued to work correctly.
I opened the configuration dialogue, selected "Plugins" and then chose the
"Install Log" tab which contained this message:

I use KDE, but every so often I find gnome-screensaver running, not
immediately after starting a session but after some time and activity.
If I kill the gnome-screensaver process it goes away for a while, but
starts up again some time later. As a result, I have a screensaver
I think plasma-desktop provides the touchpad widget.
