I've seen this as well - confused the hell out of me when it first
happened and I'm not a novice. I have an application form that looks
like page of text but is actually a page sized image, accidentally
swiping the mouse pad caused evince to grey out (compiz) for a good
minute before opening

consists of a number of pieces of information such as name, type, size
etc.
It has a location: entry as well but for long paths this information is
useless as it is 'ellipsised'

I hunted out this as I had a similar problem as I was installing without
CD-ROM by extracting the ISO to an existing Fedora install and booting
from there via grub.
I *simply* performed the following which prompted ubiquity to spring
back to the realm of usable:
sudo umount -l -r -f /dev/sda3

I needed my laptop for travel (and obviously wireless is a must!) so
currently it's got Vista back on it but up until a week ago the wireless
still didnt work under hardy so it's still not fixed. I agree that it is
a critical bug as without wireless the mobility of laptops become
pointless if you
i'm still having the problem on my laptop (Microcode SW error detected,
error reply cmd REPLY_SCAN_CMD, no wireless and occasional lock ups),
the fix suggested by garyt_lp did not work on my system. If there are
any of the ubuntu team watching this bug and need a system on which to
test I'm happy
Just did a clean install with the 8.04 LTS (not the release candidate)
and the wireless is still knackered. Anyone else in the same boat? It
says the bug is triaged but no ideas for a fix or anything? This is a
shame it made it into the LTS final, quite disappointing.

Is this bug reported correctly? Backport modules? Should it be just
linux-modules? Only two days left and it's a big bug for me given that
both my laptops are Intel wireless

Still broken here with latest updates. Oddly started to get intermittent
hard locks when the network light flashes as well now. Might have to
move back to gutsy if this doesnt get fixed :-S

Is there any news on if this was fixed upstream by the intel guys? It's
just that by the gutsy beta all wireless/graphics glitches were fixed
and this is still ongoing with the latest beta builds

downloader is invoked to fetch and install samba/nfs. This installs
without hitch but when completed the same prompt continues to appear
until cancelled (which is bad!).

Bugs,
I don't think attaching valgrind would work. I'm none too aware of why
and when it happens. It's quite random. If you can document exactly what
i need to change to plug it into valgrind then I can make sure that any
future crashes are caught correctly.
