Yes, what you suggested will actually cause my manual setup to connect
me to my network.
I seem to have discovered something else which will cause this to work.
I have repeated the steps 5 or 6 times, and it is a repeatable
situation. The exact steps are important: Enter network manager, click
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ping 192.168.1.1
connect: Network is unreachable

everyone still experiencing this bug in Gutsy would burn a Hardy alpha 6

I am having the same problem. 915resolution was effectively uninstalled
by the Hardy upgrade from Gutsy.

the alpha 5 release ), I had to reinstall nfs-common. nfs-common was
listed as one of the packages that was no longer needed during the
distribution upgrade process.

Mary, this might be overly simplistic, but I had what sounds like a
similar problem after upping the capture levels in alsamixer. It
sounded like I was making my test voice recordings while standing
outside in a high wind.
The resolution was simply moving the mic half an arm's length away from

and it appears to be fixed as I can't reproduce the error message.

When using GImmie to shutdown the computer,

upgrade.

That's really discouraging. I have no sound on a Dell Inspiron 1300.
Compiling the new Alsa stuff didn't do any good, and I downgraded to
