The snippet you have pasted is not the real cause of FTBFS. The FTBFS happens
because of some unit tests which try to connect to internet (look for unit
tests with name *Remote*).
The easiest way to fix the FTBFS is to disable these unit tests. It's is just

Same patch is present in 1.3.5-1ubuntu1 as well. Looks like I messed up
something else in merging.
In any case this will get fixed when 1.3.5-2 is synced to lucid. Also
this is now fixed upstream so future versions will never have problems.

Which version of Ubuntu are you using? In karmic there is a patch which
adds the appropriate categories in .desktop file when building the
package.

When I don't want people taking over the packages I uploaded last I
specifically add comments on MoM. So in this case it is not an issue at
all. There are fewer contributors working on java packages than
C/C++/Python etc. So I am always happy if other contributors work on
these packages.
