So after switching to GNOME3 the Network Manager GUI works again (or
maybe a restart could've achieved the same for Unity), where setting up
custom DNS servers is an option, and it gets correctly transliterated
into /run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf.

cooperative solution, the plugin has to give focus back. So with old
plugins it doesn't seem to solve anything. And even after that the user
is completely left out of the loop, as you still can't configure which

I've tried removing and hal started from /etc/init/gdm, but it wasn't

I've compiled and installed Pidgin from source (checked out from their
monotone repository), and it's rock solid since.
There's a very handy guide on ubuntuforums, if needed.
I suspect this to be a bug arising from slightly incompatible shared
libraries and/or pidgin components.

Looks like something is seriously messed up with my install.
After I log in into KDE and open the K menu once and click anywhere else
(so it closes), plasma freezes completely for me.

I had to switch to gnome, KDE always freezed, even with a brand new
user profile. I don't know if it was ksmserver or plasma. After I've
restarted my box I'll report back. I hope today's updates helped.

(kubuntu-members-kde4 PPA, jaunty and intrepid)
The particular files are being:

Same problem here.
I've installed a 7.10 Ubuntu, then KDE and KDE4. They got along rather
nice. I'm also using the nvidia GLX driver.

Regarding the nvidia-glx. I was using it, I'm sure. I think I enabled it
via the restricted drivers manager, and it upgraded itself via
adept/synaptic at times (I suppose).
