Could anyone give a quick guide on how to downgrade samba/winbind to
workaround this issue while it is fixed?

Until feisty I had installed netbeans 5.5 on edgy with sun java 5.
After updating to feisty netbeans seemed to have been removed in the
process. I uninstalled sun java 5 and installed sun java 6 then tried
to install netbeans from synaptic
