I also have had this problem after a fresh install of 12.04 64bit.  I am
suddenly and randomly logged out, losing whatever I was working on when
the crash occurred. It seems to happen with increasing frequency the
longer the machine is left on. The syslog gave no clues as to the fault.

I have an i7, asus 1155 motherboard, ATI 5000 series graphics card and
crucial SSD which worked fine with 10.10 and the FLGRX driver installed
on 12.04 without problems. After many, many crashes I decided to use the
2D unity option but after several completely unresponsive whole system
crashes and 2 weeks of failed attempts, I have now downgraded to 11.10
64bit, which runs with no problems at all.
