Been checking upstream, no bug reports in the debian repos, no bug
reports from the original developer found. No indication in the
changelogs from either package that may explain the bug or point to a
solution.

Thanks for adding this bug.
In this case it is the CAS server which instructs firefox not to store
the password. This is common practice for security sensitive sites and
CAS as a Single Sign On server does this. The idea behind it is that
then your data is safe even when someone uses your PC.
This bug has not reappeared on any of the kernels since then...
it was very specific in the -24 patchlevel, it was not present in the
-23 and dissappeared in the -25 and has never returned
I guess this can be closed and filed under 'Job well done'

by default it sends the mails to sensible-lomua which is added by the
upstream. However this is not a script, but if this is added it is
passed to a delivery script.
