I had exactly the same problem, the system did not want to update in any
way, and there were messages on the command line that such an update was
not possible for some reasons. Therefore, I downloaded the .iso file
with system 20.04.2 and installed the system again from this file.

I'm afraid I too have to report that I had rearranging icons (back to
left in default position) after reboots on 2 boxes for a week or so now.
I'm on Xubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Linux version 3.13.0-46-generic, with
xfdesktop 4.11.8-0ubuntu0.1 amd64.
In addition to my icons resetting to default position
I ran into this very same problem, and started Googling. Saw that the
first time advised was to --purge and/ or --reinstall software-center. I
did that too, but it gave me no results. Tried deleting the
/home//.cache/software-center as suggested elsewhere. This
too had no result.
In the end howeve
With the update I received today (libcairo2*) the behaviour I described earlier
disappeared.
It is now possible to place icons on both screens/ desktops.
On top of that this update also gave me a staggering speed increase!
Hence, I think this bug report can be closed, the issue is solved.

I see the same bug in Thunar (Xfce, Trusty 14.04, 3.13.0-36). This is
really striking in an example like this (was done as root): replaced a
symlink. The new symlink had the same name as the old one, but points to
a totally different file. Original symlink was deleted. New symlink
copied into drect

accounts with multiple free email providers. It used to work brilliantly
when we started out with the plugin watching only 2 Hotmail accounts
through imap. The connection data we used was as indicated by Hotmail
PS: I forgot to mention - it is possible to place a program window on both
screens and work in it.
The reported behaviour only concerns files and links (e.g the removable drive
