Just wanting to confirm the problem. I checked and unchecked the option
several times, and already spend considerable time trying, before I came
here to see that this is known since Oct 2008.
Having checkboxes in the GUI that do simply not work *IS* annoying, and
it *WILL* harm Ubuntu's reputation
For me, auto-removal of dependencies works with your examples (epiphany-
webkit and gcc-?.??). However, I experience the problem you describe
with the *buntu-desktop meta-packages. Is there something special about
the dependencies of these packages?
Steps to reproduce:
1) sudo aptitude install ub
Would this qualify as a papercut? People pressing the "search" button in
nautilus surely expect a wildcard search? At least, I did ;). And I was
very annoyed it didn't work.

On a freshly installed Xubuntu desktop system (no laptop!), Xfce power
manager settings will not allow to set up a power profile.
As is to be expected for a desktop system, power manager settings only shows
one profile called "On AC"
Thank you Heineken. Downgrading to upstart 0.6.3-10 solved the issue for me,
too.
It looks as if the changes made in 0.6.3-11 (wait until the loopback device is
up?) keep upstart from working properly on some systems.

I confirm that repeating events do not show up. Neither do they show up

I confirm the problem with versions
0.3.1-4 (hardy)
and 0.3.1-4ubuntu0.1 (hardy-updates).
I cannot retrieve version 0.3.1-5, neither from hardy-updates nor
hardy-proposed. 0.3.1-4ubuntu0.1 is the latest I get from both.
