Correction to previous post:
Updates from 2019-02-24 did NOT corrected the problem.
The problem disappears when Ubuntu 16.04 is started as reboot after Kubuntu
18.04 session.
Kubuntu 18.04 operates modem properly both after cold start and reboot; Ubuntu
16.04 operates modem only after reboot

Public bug reported:
After today's (February 23) software update Huawei 3372H-153 modem is
not working anymore (it was working for last 6 weeks). Modem itself is
OK - provides connection when used with router instead of sticking it to
laptop directly.

Hi,
I switched 'Allow louder than 100%' to off before reporting this
problem, and it is still off.

Thanks. I have seen other audio bugs with the same problem -- the state

New finding: the distortion seems to appear after reboot (without power
off). IMO some variables in sound card (probably gain) are not reset to
initial values during reboot and/or switch between audio sources (maybe
even during switch between browser tabs) and this over-steers final
amplifiers.
Public bug reported:
After installing recent updates to sound libraries (see log below) sound is
distorted, sounds like over-steered, especially right channel (I use build-in
speakers with "stereo sound" option [BTW: I cannot get working sub-woofer]).
