I just discovered that the error message in question here appeared when
I changed the name of a not yet well functioning (the mainboard)
ethernet connection, but the message did not appear when I changed the
name of the actually well functioning/defined and in use ethernet
connection (a PCI

btw for what it's worth, immediately after the crash midori did get
successfully installed and started. The add / remove menu feature,
itself, did not crash during it all.

gnome-app-install crashed with
Python3 installed under jaunty for me just now without a hitch. So at
least if the upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty has been completed then
Python3 is available / installable thereafter under jaunty.
As I recall, my upgrade from intrepid to jaunty also entailed problems
with the installation of
Hopefully the automatically attached info will this time around provide
useful info. All I know is that I had only just booted the PC when this
and (so far) four other error reports popped up in rapid succession.

btw - I am as yet listed as not being an ubuntero. I do, nevertheless,
fully agree with and try always to comply with the ubunto code of
conduct, only I have not yet come to grips with and thus have yet to use

I, too, had just activated the Nvidia 96.43.10 driver in anticipation of

I eventually succeeded in remonving python2.6. I then found it
necessary to also remove gdm-new in order to get ubuntu9.04 working
normally again, since gdm-new appeared to require python2.6 in order to
function.
(At any rate, installing gdm-new had resulted in also installing
python2.6. )

I suspect that the older error report referred to here below concern
essentially the same problem touched upon here. My attempts there to
get that considered a duplicate of this error report and thus also
reopened I appear to have botched.

.deb package of my PC I receive the same warning about python2.6 as
shown in the attachment, namely, that a tautology be present within the
code of the python2.6 package.
I therefore removed python2.6 as well as python-all in

Sorry. I only just came to realise, that eventually the specific
repository that I used to update my PCs .deb files might be the only
repository to have a python2.6 package containing faulty code.

OK... after the above measures were taken, I was able to use synaptic
to install the python3 package...:
python3.0 (Version 3.0~rc1+20081027-0ubuntu1) wird auf die Version

and in the aftermath to then install first one then the newest mono
packages. Apparently,
ok, I can confirm that my own ~/.config/menus/applications.menu existing
but being currently empty indeed leads to alacarte terminating.
