When will cups-filters V 1.9.0 get added to 16.04.1 LTS updates? My
cups-filters is still at 1.8.3-2ubuntu3 as of today's latest updates.
I'm seeing the same failure to power off and used the same workaround
process as reported by Bill Miller above.

FYI, I just completed a full install from CD of 12.04 beta (x86 version)
on the exact same PC hardware where I previously saw this blank screen
problem during a 10.04 CD full install. No problems encountered; blank
screen or otherwise

Ron, just so I am clear about your comments; you are saying that the
root cause of this Blank screen on boot defect is due to use of an
nVidia G86 version GeForce 8400GS GPU and you can resolve this
problem by using a different, later version of the 8400GS GPU?

Default 10.04 LTS Installer video driver fails (blank screen). Video
adapter GPU hardware is Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS. I can successfully
install Ubuntu 9.1 on this same hardware so the problem is within the
