I'm facing the same issue on my laptop after an upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10. I
tried:
* grub-install
* boot-repair
Neither worked. I also tried installing the mainline linux kernel
(4.9-rc1), that didn't help either. As others have mentioned, this is
probably something in grub, not necessarily

I can confirm that this bug is fixed on the latest Kubuntu 14.04 cd
images. I just booted today's image and was able to connect to my office
wifi without a hitch.

I installed nvidia-prime to try it, but later decided to stick to
bumblebee. I removed (apt-get remove nvidia-prime). On the next reboot,
lightdm failed to start: I was dropped to a blank screen with no error
messages.
On investigating, I found this line in lightdm.log:
I understand, and that is eventually what worked for me. Even so, IMHO
there should have been a warning on remove, explicitly saying that not
purging will make things go bad.

icon on the wifi when VPN was active. After a recent update where the
layouts were changed, on activating VPN, there is no icon when VPN is

I know that newer versions of parted don't have this problem: e.g.
parted -l on Fedora/Arch linux always work.
