I have chosen the LXD '4.0' realease path
As the 'do-release-upgrade' will break in the middle on the upgrade
process I fix the upgrading myself with this steps:
1) sudo apt purge lxd-client lxd
2) sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
afterward lxd runs as expected from snap
Public bug reported:
running do-release-upgrade from ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 i got this upgrade
error for lxd

Public bug reported:
My Ubuntu 20.04 smokeping setup was configured with binary name fping6,
and smokeping 2.7.3-2 which always uses -6.
Using fping 4.2-1 on Ubuntu 20.04 the fping6-probes from smokeping
stopped working.
Using fping 4.0-6 on Ubuntu 18.04 the fping6-probe works as expected.

I have now rebuild the cfengine-1.6.5 package for ubuntu hardy 8.04 (ia32,
amd64)
based on the ubuntu edgy sources with the following modifications:
* removed the gcc4 patch (015_gcc4_fix)
* added getopt patch (attached to this comment)
cfengine runs without any segfaults and works as expected
the following patch fixes the segmentation fault in the cfengine-1.6.5
package for my ubuntu feisty installation (amd64)
(I'm still using the cfengine 1.6.5 as an helping tool for a system
management tool.)
** Attachment added: patch for the OPTIONS declaration used in cfengine
Affects also Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty) on amd64.
Patch attached.
