I'm using Ubuntu 14:04
When I run Rhythmbox with gksudo, ie: gksudo rhythmbox in the terminal, the
menu does not appear on the top or integrated bar of the application window.
In previous versions of Ubuntu menus were available when using gksudo
rhythmbox.
** Affects:
I'm using Libreoffice 4.0.3 on ubuntu 12.04.2 64bits and I have the same
problem : blank text in menus

This bug occurred after eating run the following in Terminal:
sudo apt-get install - reinstall virtualbox virtualbox-dkms
I chose to re-install it was showing the following error when starting
the virtual machine:
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)
