Yes still having this problem If I try just with the cli doing and apt-get it gets to downloading about 15% of the package then the whole system locks up. Only way back is a hard reboot -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu.

Havent noticed it crash randomly on it's own. It's actually more the one specific packages, the google-chrome-beta package. If I run update manager, but un-select that one to update it works fine. Similarly it's only if I specifically choose the chrome package to install from the command line

Public bug reported: I have installed google-chrome-beta on my machine and registered the google update page as a provider. When the update manager runs it shows an update for the chrome beta package. Then and only when I select to install that package, it gets a little bit through downloading
