I have the latest patched update for 12.04, 64 bit and this problem is still an issue. What's even worse is that with Virtualbox VMs running in fullscreen mode, the alt+tab combo within the VM triggers HUD outside the VM. This is not normal operation and should not occur until the right control

OK, bigger problem now. With the newest kernel applied (mentioned above), now that I can get video working, it will not shut down. When I select shutdown, the machine just reboots instead. I cannot seem to turn off my laptop except if I press the power button when it finishes shutting down.

Thanks Kurt for your comments. I unfortunately was unable to know what package caused this problem at the time, as it broke my system completely and I could not log in using that specific kernel. I will read through the links you provided above and see what additional info I can supply you with.
