Thank you for responding, I ran all of the commands and still could not install
from the update manager. I eventually used a DVD with an Ubuntu 12.04 ISO and
used the upgrade in place option preserving my 10.04 data and programs. I did
not realize that Ubuntu had an install in

When using the terminal to upgrade from ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 i received
this message:
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
