In addition to the work above, I had to add this to
/etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf
match action=org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable
return result=yes /
/match
The above worked for me without any other fixes

I also had this exact bug. No modifiers, Firefox crashing on keyboard
input. Running setxkbmap worked for me, so I setup a shortcut to run it
with the mouse whenever the modifiers went crazy.

I can confirm that I am showing the same symptoms as Dave Gilbert
(above) -- the static ip had the exact same problem for me (and I also
worked around this by flipping to dchp and back).
But I have just now found what I believe to be the problem:
'auto eth0' needs to be added to
EDIT: The gui network-admin application is what I actually mean. The
NetworkManager applet is doing its job just fine by ignoring eth0 since
I am 'manually' (gui-ally) configuring it.

I have encountered this bug in the Hardy Beta as well. I set static IP
by choosing Manual configuration in the Network Manager. I have been
getting around it by opening the Network Manager, setting it to DHCP and
then resetting it to Static IP. After that it works again (until the
next reboot).
