tinkering with the configurations. Eventually I removed the entry
"||explorer" from the "startup program" field in the "advanced" tab. It

When I raised this, I was running Trusty, and the intel driver didn't
work but the modesetting driver did. Now I'm running Xenial, and the
intel driver mostly works, and modesetting does not, so I can no longer

explains the behaviour of rc.d. Editing the postinst script to use
service instead of invoke-rc.d did fix it, though.

When I say "invoke-rc.d is not working", I mean that a service status on
the service suggests that invoke-rc.d did nothing whatsoever. No errors,
nothing. The mysql service didn't even notice that invoke-rc.d had been
run.

Mouse cursor was still active, because system has touchscreen, and using
that works, and if I know where the invisible mouse cursor is, moving
a regular mouse gives me hover (etc) effects. Just the mouse cursor
isn't rendered.

Adding linux as it was the kernel upgrade which caused the breakage.

I checked that before I raised the issue. There's no Skype in there.
That's why I assumed this had to be from session saving. The only place
Skype appears in xfce4-session-settings is in Session, where I can't
set restart to Never.
