It gives
$ lsb_release --version
No LSB modules are available.
whereas it should something like this :-
$ dpkg --version
Debian `dpkg' package management program version 1.14.24ubuntu1

Hi all,
There was something called gnome-sound-properties .
This binary/package used to tell if I'm using Alsa or Pulseaudio or
whatever service I was using.
Also I was able to do speaker tests to know if things are right or not.

I get better quality of audio by doing the following :-
Edit /etc/pulse/default.pa and specific this line
load-module module-hal-detect
Add this bit to the same
load-module module-hal-detect tsched=0
Doing so makes the audio frames not drop.
